Fortec was engaged through sister company, Ertech, on
contract 156/15 for the refurbishment to timber bridges 950 and 952 crossing the Swan River at Garratt Road in the Perth metropolitan area.

Details

The river crossings are among the earliest to be built in Perth with bridge 950 constructed in 1935 and bridge 952 constructed 37 years later in 1972. Bridge 950 is currently the longest timber bridge in Western Australia and was added to the State Heritage list in 2009.

Works to bridge 950 consisted of:

  • Traffic management – full bridge closure.
  • Management of local stakeholders and assets.
  • Falsework system.
  • Concrete pile potting (220 no).
  • Timber pile protection tape to piles in river below water level.
  • Routine timber bridge maintenance.
  • Installation of new fender system to navigation span.

Works to bridge 950 consisted of:
